One of the leading Internet, network and e-Commerce services companies in India Sify.com has introduced www.chennailive.in, which is the very first website for the Indian city of Chennai with live video streaming.

Dr. C. Chandramouli, IT Secretary, Tamil Nadu, unveiled the new service at a glittering function at The Taj Coromandel hotel, Chennai on the evening of July 24, 2007.

Speaking about the latest initiative, Dr. Chandramouli said, “I am happy to launch Chennailive.in, the first site with live video streaming. With its exciting and extensive city-centric content, the website will enable Chennai citizens to keep in touch with happenings in the city anytime, anywhere. It’s also a great way for the people who live overseas to stay in touch with their favourite city”.

Apart from Dr. Chandramouli, the launch saw the presence of big Kollywood (Tamil Cinema, based in Chennai) stalwarts Vikram, Reema Sen, Madhavan with his wife, Genelia, Rajnikanth’s son-in-law, Dhanush. Namitha unveiled several sections of the website and spoke about places in Chennai closest to their hearts. Net Jockeys of the portal Prashanth and Pooja made their debut presence.

chennailive.in marks the fourth city portal from Sify.com. In the past it has come up with portals of the other prominent cities in India namely Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. A significant feature of the Chennai portal is live video feeds from traffic web-cams stationed at key junctions of the city so citizens can plan their routes by checking the site for the prevailing traffic conditions. With this function, users will have access to live video streaming of the traffic in the city at any given point of time.

V. Sivaramakrishnan, President, Portals, Sify Limited, said, “We are delighted to launch chennailive.in as part of our strategy to provide the best access to information about the city, and as a way for people to keep in touch with their city. This is the best place on the web to get local information for the citizens in each of these cities. We intend to introduce more such city-centric websites to create online communities as a platform to share their views, discuss local topics and build their own personal space online”

Chennai portal www.chennailive.in will feature video sections across categories such as information on the latest happenings in the city (Chennai Diary), gossip and updates on Tamil movies (Kollywood Masala), video reviews of the most happening hot spots in Chennai (Hangouts), hottest deals (Chennai Bazaar), reviews of the best know eateries (Meals Ready), and many more. Other offerings include city news, news in Tamil, classifieds and directory listings, city maps, etc.
